The AMI Hospital Maputo was officially opened by His Excellency Armando Guebuza, the President of Mozambique,
on 9 June 2010.
The event was also attended by several ministers from surrounding African nations, in addition to numerous
non-governmental organisations, insurance company representatives, tourism consultants and local business delegates.
The new facility, which opened to patients on 10 May 2010, has been well received by local residents, businesses, embassies
and tourists during its first 15 months of operation and has demonstrated a constant growth in patient numbers.
The hospital specialises in medical and surgical disciplines, has 35 beds, a delivery room, haemodialysis unit, 24-hour
Emergency centre, X-ray department, CT scan centre, 4D ultrasound, three ICU beds, two neonatal ICU beds and two theatres.
Marketing in the local area has proved successful, and currently includes a local daily radio broadcast highlighting,
on a rotational basis, the various services on offer by the hospital.
The focus of these marketing campaigns is to reiterate the realigned strategy of the AMI Hospital Maputo, which is now a centre
of excellence for disciplines such as paediatrics, gynaecology, surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, internal medicine,
haemodialysis and dentistry.
Support services underpinning the aforementioned clinical services include nursing services, physiotherapy, radiology, a
pharmacy and a laboratory.
